The Silawat are a scheduled caste who live in Madhya Pradesh. The word sila means stone and they do stone work and work in agriculture. They are vegetarians who eat wheat. Hinduism is their religion. They speak Bundelkhandi and read and write in Devanagari.

The Silawat have birth and marriage rituals. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property.

The Silawat send their children to school but they have a low literacy level, so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too. They use modern and traditional medicines and family planning.

The Silawat migrated from Rajasthan.
