Introduction / History

The Rautia of India live in Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. They speak Sadri which is a form of Hindi.

The Rautia have two main sub groups, the Bargohri and the Majhgohri. They have another two groups, the Pachhasi and Chot Gohri.

The Rautia work in cultivation. They gather fruits from jungles. A few of them have migrated to cities and towns.

Approval has recently been given in July 2016 for the Rautia to be included as a Scheduled Tribe.
