Introduction / History

In Assam, India there are many Muslims. Islam was introduced to Assam in the 1200's. Many Bengali speakers have come to live in Assam during the last half of the 20th century.

Assamese Muslims are less orthodox than most other Asian Muslims. They are involved in Hindu festivals and customs. About one third of the Assamese who are living there are Muslims. They have many mosques of which Panbari is the oldest.

Most Assamese Muslims depend on agriculture for a living. Many live in Barpeta, Dhubri and Nagaon.

Prayer Points

* Pray that as the Assamese Muslims read the Koran that they will want to find more about Jesus Christ, read the Bible and give their lives to Him.
* Pray that God will give them dreams and visions leading them to salvation.
