Mala people were historically warriors. Today, they have assumed various occupations, and are considered a scheduled caste. This has been a disadvantage to them in many ways. They speak Telugu and read and write in Kannada. In Tamil Nadu the Mala speak in Tamil as well as Telugu and read and write in Tamil.
They work in agriculture and some are cotton weavers. They are becoming educated as opportunities increase opening doors to teaching, medical, and governmental employment. In Karnataka they have adult marriages arranged by family leaders, and they only marry within their group. They allow for divorce and remarriage.
Mala people are almost completely Hindu and animist in their religious beliefs and practices. They fear and worship countless gods, supposed spirits in all people, animals, and objects. Their entire lives are controlled by these fears and beliefs.
The Mala people need to experience the abundant blessings offered only by Jesus Christ, lord of Lords.
Pray that Mala believers will lead others into a movement to Christ. Pray that gospel materials and the internet will help them to understand the things of Christ. Pray for spiritual hunger that will lead them into a disciple making movement.
