Western Cham in Malaysia

The Western Cham are survivors from the Champa Kingdom. When the Vietnamese invaded their kingdom, the majority of Champa aristocrats managed to flee to Cambodia while the poorer ones remained in Vietnam. Some have migrated to Malaysia for work in construction, fishing and rice cultivation. Most of the Western Cham try to renew their contracts so they can earn relatively good wages rather than return to Cambodia.

Ministry Obstacles

The Western Cham are Muslim; this is their identity as a people. There is much family pressure to remain in the Islamic fold.

Outreach Ideas

They have faced isolation, rejection and pain. They need the love, acceptance and abundant life Jesus offers. Christ followers can provide this gateway.

Pray that this people group would fear the name of the Lord and experience His healing.

Prayer Focus

Ask God for Bibles in the Western Cham language and for people to take them to these Muslims in Malaysia and Cambodia. Ask God to touch their hearts, so they will crave fellowship with him. Ask God to help them realize they need a savior. Pray for the Lord to move in their communities during this decade.
