The Tirole Kunbi are a subgroup of the large Kunbi caste of India. Most Tirole live in the central Indian states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Their primary language is Marathi, the language of Maharashtra. They claim that they have a Rajput background, but other communities might not agree. Illiteracy is an issue for the Tirole, especially for women and girls. Most rural Tirole Kunbi work in agriculture. In the cities many work as day laborers and in factories. The Tirole have a caste council that looks after their needs and promotes their interests. The men eat meat but most of the women are vegetarians. They are endogamous (they prefer to marry within their clan), and cousin marriages are common. Marriage to one spouse is the norm.
Since there are probably no Christ followers among the Tirole Kunbi, whoever tries to evangelize them will be starting at the beginning.
"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people." Jeremiah 31:33
Pray for today’s people group to become the Lord’s people!
Pray that the council and village leaders who look after the Tirole Kunbi will give their lives to Jesus Christ. Pray that Marathi gospel materials will lead them to salvation. Pray that Indian believers befriend the Tirole and tell them about the savior.
