Introduction / History

The Kunbi Tirole are living in Maharashtra and speak Marathi. Men are not vegetarians but most women are vegetarians. Jowar which is a cereal is the main food that they eat.

They are endogamous (they prefer to marry within their clan) and have cousin marriages. Divorcees and the bereaved can marry again. Sons inherit the property. They have birth and marriage rituals and the dead are cremated.

The Kunbi Tirole work in agriculture. In the towns many work in laboring jobs. They have an association that looks after them. Hinduism is their religion. They believe in education, modern medicines and family planning.
