The Baloch people give high status to poets and professional minstrels. Their original homeland reaches from eastern Balochistan to southwestern Punjab, which straddles India and Pakistan. This high, dry region was once a very populated country, watered by many flowing rivers. Today, it is a barren area of rocky mountains and dry river valleys mixed with desert land. It is difficult to make a living in the region, so there is a large Baloch diaspora. Some have migrated to Turkmenistan.
The Baloch are Sunni Muslims who seldom accept outside ideas. Very little mission work is taking place among the Baloch of Turkmenistan. Illiteracy rates are very high, which makes it difficult to share the written word in their communities.
Literacy teachers for the Baloch could be an important ministry to them. Audio and visual aids could also be helpful.
"Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever." Psalm 111:3
Pray for many from this people group to find this God whose righteousness never fails.
Pray the church would be strengthened and that it would take root in Turkmenistan. Pray Baloch Christian believers would not neglect to spread the word to Baloch people everywhere. Pray for the Lord to bless the Baloch people in Turkmenistan physically and spiritually so they will bless his name. Pray for them to accept the abundant life offered by Jesus Christ.
