Between 1987 and 2002, the Nuba Mountain region in northern Sudan, where the Tima live, was a battle zone in the second Sudanese civil war, and the area was continually devastated. Due to wars, instability, and the isolation of the region, research has rarely been conducted and has only been possible within brief periods. During the past 50 years, the Tima have undergone many cultural, religious, social, and political changes. Many parts of Tima society are changing, such as its language, dances, songs, games, and religious beliefs. Islam has largely replaced their traditional religion.
The Nuba Mountain area, where the Tima live, is not easy for outsiders to enter. Additionally, the Tima language lacks scripture and any other Christian resources.
"But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels." Psalm 81:11-12
Pray that this will be the year when this people group stops following their own stubborn desires and begins to follow the Lord.
Pray for peace with South Sudan, and for all tribes and peoples to gain an interest in knowing and following Jesus Christ. Pray for the entire Nuba Mountain region to be stable and safe, and for the tribes in the area to prosper. Pray for the Tima to hear from the Holy Spirit and be drawn to Jesus Christ, the only Savior.
