Pinjara in Bangladesh

Pinjara in Bangladesh

The Pinjara derive their name from the term pinjala meaning "cotton weaver." Their traditional occupation is cleaning and reeling cotton to make pillows, quilts and mattresses. Pinjara people celebrate Hindu festivals, making vows to Hindu gods although they are Muslim. They are not vegetarian, but they do not eat pork.

Ministry Obstacles

Very little ministry activity has been focused on the Pinjara people. Many Bengali resources are available although there is a severe lack of workers to this sizable unreached Muslim group. Pinjara people are not well accepted because they blend two belief systems.

Outreach Ideas

The JESUS Film is available in Bengali. Showing this film would be a visible medium to broadcast the truth of the gospel to this unreached people group.

Scripture Focus

"The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!"  Psalm 47:9

Scripture Prayer

Pray that the Lord will find honor and worship from today’s people group. May they understand that they belong to Him.

Prayer Focus

Pray for many from this large unreached people group to understand both God's judgment and his majestic glory. Pray for faithful intercessors to rise up among Pinjara people until there is a strong movement to Christ among them. Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead them into a disciple making movement.
