The Kurds living In Turkey have been labeled by the Turkish government as "Mountain Turks" in an attempt to portray them as the same as the Turkish majority. However, a Turk and a Kurd differ by their facial features. The Kurds, when among themselves, often speak their own language, Kurmanji. Though many identify with their Kurdish roots, others have become part of the mainstream Turkish society and have even adopted the Turkish language in their homes.
Kurds and Turks share Sunni Islam as their main religion, the religion being a part of their identity as a people. The Kurds do not readily trust anyone with a Christian background due to them believing that they were betrayed by the Western nations during their time of struggle.
The use of Turkish cultural music and art forms would be an excellent way to begin to present Christ to members of this unreached people group. Pray for people to develop such evangelistic tools.
"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded." James 4:8
Pray that God draws this people group to Himself. Pray that their hearts are purified and become completely devoted to Him.
Pray that the Christian believers who openly and covertly live the life of faith would be emboldened to be a living witness to Christ and that they would find opportunities to share the gospel with the tightly knit Kurdish community. Pray for a powerful movement to Christ among Turkish speaking Kurds. Pray for their spiritual openness to Jesus Christ, especially among elders. Pray also for justice and peace in the Kurdish homeland.
