Mongallese Arab in South Sudan

Islam spread throughout much of North Africa from the 7th through the 11th centuries. During this time, it became much more common than in Sudan, where it was very hierarchical and mainly followed by the upper classes. One of these "upper class" people groups were the Mongallese in South Sudan. They speak Juba Arabic. A relatively high number believe in Jesus for a predominantly Muslim group in Africa.

Ministry Obstacles

Language is one of the biggest obstacles in sharing the gospel with the Mongallese Arab. Their distinct dialect and strong Islamic beliefs make it difficult for any solid movement to take root.

Translating the Bible into their language is an important way to make the gospel message readily available.
