Iranun in Philippines

Iranun in Philippines

The Iranun are a small Filipino Muslim group of sea-based people living on the coast of Sabah province. Most of the Iranun are engaged in fishing, while the rest raise food crops along with Muslim and non-Muslim neighbors. The Iranun are Muslim, but also believe in spirits and are in constant fear of them. Thus, there are many animistic rituals that they observe in addition to Islam.

Ministry Obstacles

The Iranun have resisted every effort to introduce Christianity to them. Their attitude towards Christianity is marked by indifference.

Scripture Focus

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."  Acts 1:8

Scripture Prayer

Pray that today’s people group would receive God’s Spirit and become empowered to tell others about the grace of God in Jesus Christ.

Prayer Focus

Pray for the safety of the Iranun fishermen as they practice their trade. Pray for Christians in other Filipino tribes to have a heart to share Christ with the Muslim Iranun Filipino community. There has been one group trying to reach the Iranun for a long time but with very minimal results. Pray that they may be encouraged to persevere and that their work will be fruitful. Pray for the Lord to give Iranun family leaders dreams of the risen Christ that will lead them to the only savior.
