Introduction / History

The Bushi people originated in Madagascar, though most have migrated to the Comoro Island of Mayotte. Today there are only a couple hundred of them in their original homeland.

Where Are they Located?

Almost all Bushi people live either in the Comoro Islands or in Madagascar.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Like many societies today the Bushi people have tension between the older and younger generations.

The younger generations who have been educated in the French secular system, now question some of their groups traditions and seek things of the West, such as material wealth, less strict moral code, and a different manner of dress.
What Are Their Beliefs?

The older members of society are devoted to traditional Islamic practices, including five daily prayer times, fasting, and regularly attending the mosque. Younger members are less concerned about these things; instead they are in pursuit of material possessions and seeking a prosperous Western lifestyle. There is still some sense of community in the smaller villages, but even this is changing.

In all age groups, there is a strong devotion to a mix of Islamic beliefs and spirits, known as jinns, which they turn to for their daily needs. These spirits keep the Bushi people in fear, and they try hard not to displease these spirits.

What Are Their Needs?

The Bushi people need spiritual hunger that will drive them into the arms of God the Father. They also need deliverance from fear of the spirit world.

Prayer Points

Pray that believers in Jesus will be burdened to bring the gospel to the Bushi people.
Pray that both the older and younger generations will see their need for Jesus.
Pray for there to soon be a Disciple-Making movement among Bushi people in Madagascar.
Pray for people's minds to be set free from the powers of darkness.
