Introduction / History

The Halalkhor are Muslims, mostly Shia, who live in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in India. They are Dalits who are classed as very low and they are trying for Scheduled Caste status which is difficult as they are not Hindus.

The Halhalkhor are sweepers and scavengers by tradition. They are descendants of the Hindu Bhangi who became Muslims.

In Uttar Pradesh they speak many dialects of Hindi.

In Bihar the Halalkhor are sweepers and they speak in several dialects. There are both Shia and Sunni Muslims among them and there is no marrying between them. Many have migrated to other parts of India and work as laborers.

The Halhalkhor have caste councils by tradition, who judge in disagreements in their community.

Prayer Points

* Pray that God will give the Halhalkhor dreams and visions leading them to Salvation.
* Pray that the poverty they are in will lead them to Jesus Christ.
* Pray that they will get help for their poverty needs.
