The Qizilbash are bilingual Persian and Turkic-speaking Azerbaijani background, united in their belief in Twelver Shia Islam. Kizilbash are Azeri Turks tribes mainly from Anatolia and Azerbaijan. The main different between Qizilbash Oghuz tribes and other Turkic people is that they are Shia Turkic people. Therefore, the name Qizilbash is usually applied to them only. Some of these tribes were subdivided into clans.
Despite their strong military history, the Qizilbash are not likely to be in Pakistan's military today, but they hold power. They are often urban professionals: doctors, teachers, engineers, and lawyers. Though they are no longer cohesive as a people, they hold onto their ethnic pride.
The Qizilbash are Shia Muslims who hold to some unusual beliefs. They regarded their rulers as divine figures and are considered by orthodox Shias as fanatics.
The Qizilbash community needs to put their hope in Jesus Christ rather than their ancestral history or their rulers.
Pray that God will raise up laborers who are willing to reach the Qizilbash for Christ, no matter what the cost. Pray for a church planting movement among the Qizilbash people in Pakistan and Afghanistan. • Pray for a desire for spiritual truth and holiness that will open Qizilbash hearts to the king of Kings.
