The Sinhalese are the largest people group in Sri Lanka. Most of them are Theravada Buddhists.
Most Sinhalese in Canada live in Toronto in Ontario. Many live in Quebec and some in other parts of the country. The Sinhalese began coming to Canada in the 1950s. In the latter part of the 1980s more Sinhalese came to Canada as refugees, largely because of the war in Sri Lanka.
The Sinhalese in Canada are involved in many activities that their community societies organize. There are many of these societies among the Sinhalese here. Sinhalese Buddhist temples have religious and cultural events. Buddhist temples are used to encourage the Buddhist way of life among the Sinhalese.
The Sinhalese in Canada keep their people connected through the media. There are television programs and a radio one for them too. Also there are two free Sinhalese newspapers. The Sinhalese speak Sinhalese and they can also speak in English.
* Scripture Prayers for the Sinhalese in Canada.
* Pray that the Sinhalese turn away from Buddhism and realize that Jesus Christ has the answers for them.
* Pray that the Sinhalese Christians in Canada will lead the others to Jesus Christ, maybe through the Sinhalese media too.
