Mauritius Island, a land area of about 15-by-20 miles long and wide, lies 560 miles east of Madagascar, off east Africa. The island is home for a mixed group including indentured workers, Chinese traders, European settlers and those who descended from slaves. The language they speak is called Morisyan or Mauritian Creole.
Through the years many have settled in other countries to earn a living. Among these are Ireland, the UK, Australia, Canada, Sri Lanka, Belgium, Italy and South Africa.
Mauritius was under British rule until 1968, so there are strong economic ties between the two countries. A large portion of the Mauritian diaspora is in Great Britain.
Mauritians have affected the culture of the United Kingdom through music, sports, politics and news casting.
Mauritians can be Hindu, Muslim or Christian.
The Mauritians need to see the glory of the Lord so they can understand that he is far above all others.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to woo Mauritians into a vibrant, unshakable faith in Jesus Christ.
Pray for Christ followers among the Mauritians to disciple others who will disciple others.
Pray for the Lord’s powerful transformation of Mauritian families as a testimony to others of his goodness and love.
