Ethnic Bengalis are the original inhabitants of the Bengal region which straddles Bangladesh and West Bengal, a state in India. Bengali is their language, and it is one of the largest in the world. While the vast majority of Bengalis live in Bangladesh and northeast India, some have migrated to other countries such as France. In general, the Bengalis are a proud people, highly ambitious, and always striving for excellence. They are noted for their cultural achievements, especially in the area of literature.
Though there were Bangladeshis in France before 2008, this was a year when more migrated to France seeking a new life.
Many Bengalis are in the "informal" economy, such as selling produce or working in restaurants. They have been described as "precarious, temporary, unauthorized and deportable aliens."
In 2020 Bangladeshis in France were put in the unenviable position of being in a vulnerable economic position in France while many in their old country called for the boycott of French goods.
Bengalis in France are Sunni Muslims. They have varying degrees of dedication to their religious beliefs.
The Bangladeshis in France need economic opportunities that will help them to flourish in their new homeland.
Ask the Holy Spirit to soften the hearts of the Bengalis in France towards Christian believers so that they will be receptive to the gospel.
Ask the Lord to raise up strong Bengali churches that will reproduce themselves, spreading the fragrance of Christ in their community and beyond.
Pray for loving ambassadors of Christ to go to the South Asians in France.
Scripture Prayers for the South Asian, Bengali-speaking in France.
