The Bauri people are Hindu priests who have been barred from the temple! They claim to be priests of the Dharam deity, but Brahmins have forced them to the lowest ranks of the Hindu hierarchy. Now they are of very low status and are not allowed to even enter some temples. However, they still perform priestly duties during the Dharam deity festival.
Very few Bauri people own land. They lack an adequate diet, and the water available to them is poor. They have little health care or education. They are small in stature, but perform manual labor, pulling rickshaws or sharecropping. Some bear palanquins (a conveyance consisting of a chair or bed carried on two poles). They live in poverty, and most are illiterate. Thus, they have little human hope for improving their life style.
The Bauris practice animistic rituals as well as Hindu ones.
As far as we know, no mission agencies work among the Bauri. Many people won't even accept water from their hands, yet the all-sufficient Creator stands ready to receive them as his children and give them living water! The Bauri people remain unaware that spiritual riches are only a prayer away.
Pray for workers. Pray for hearts that are open and willing to allow Christ to transform their families and communities. Pray for evangelistic tools that can effectively reach this oral culture. Ask God to loose the Bauri people from the spiritual principalities that hold them captive. Pray that God will raise an army of intercessors who will pray for the Bauri's needs and share Christ with them.
