Ever since the USSR invaded Afghanistan in 1979, there have been waves of Afghan refugees fleeing for safety. Most of them now live in neighboring Pakistan or Iran, but some have made their way to the more peaceful shores of European countries, including Germany. Those who have marketable skills are usually able to relocate, while those without such skills often get stuck in refugee camps and low-end jobs. Christ followers can make friends with Afghans in the workplace and in their neighborhoods. It will take time before they earn the right to tell these Muslims about Jesus.
Afghan in Germany are often fleeing the influence of self-righteous religious zealots. They are understandably skeptical about anything spiritual.
"Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!" Psalm 139:23-24
Pray that many from this people group will have the kind of intimacy with the Lord that it takes to purge their lives of anything that offends Him.
Pray for the fervent believers to reach out in faith and love to the Muslim Afghan. Pray for a spiritual hunger among the Afghans that will be satisfied by none other than the only savior, Jesus Christ. Pray for a movement to Christ among Afghans to spread far and wide. Pray for the light of Christ to shine upon the Afghan in Germany.
