Deaf in Turkmenistan

Deaf communities around the world have their own histories, languages and cultures. Just like spoken languages, sign languages are not universal, and vary widely from country to country and often even within a county. Turkmenistan is no exception.

Ministry Obstacles

Relatively little Bible translation work has been done in sign languages and interpreted church services provide only the most basic of access to the Deaf community. Because of a lack of access to the spoken language, many Deaf people have a difficult time understanding church services and activities. This is especially true in Turkmenistan, a Muslim country with only a tiny Christian minority.

Outreach Ideas

Translations that allow direct access to the word for the Deaf in Turkmenistan could help reach this people group. Having Deaf people minister to their spiritual needs adds credibility.

Pray for spiritual hunger and discernment that will lead them to the cross.
