Chhimba (Sikh traditions) in India

The Chhimba are a Sikh business community. They are known for their fine work with textiles, dying printing and tailoring them into clothes. They tend to be wealthy and capable in their daily work lives. Though they live scattered throughout northern India, most speak Punjabi.

Ministry Obstacles

Chhimba Sikhs try to befriend of other religious backgrounds, but rigidly uphold their own Sikh beliefs. It is difficult for people of wealth and privilege to embrace allegiance to Jesus because that would result in lower status. They would be perceived as lowering their status, something that is highly valued throughout South Asia.

Scripture Focus

"All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God."  Psalm 86:9-10

Scripture Prayer

Pray for many from this people group to understand this.

Prayer Focus

Pray that God would send believers who will be wise in presenting his word to the Chhimba Sikhs. Pray that the Chhimba Sikhs would find in Jesus mercy, contentment, continence, and the truth which they seek. Pray for many from the Chhimba Sikh community, including their spiritual leaders, to have the chance to hear and respond to a clear gospel message. Pray for them to have the spiritual hunger it takes to allow Jesus to transform their families.
