The Kantarure of Brazil became a people more than a hundred years ago and have an indigenous religion. They live in two occupied places, one called "Batidas" and the other called "Pedras," and they now speak Portuguese. They have close contact with the residents of nearby towns. The Kantarure are hunters, gatherers and small farmers who grow mainly cassava and beans. They also fish in the nearby river, which also provides income for them.
Brazilian laws seek to reduce contact between outsiders and the indigenous peoples. Many in the church are ignorant of the Kantarures' existence.
Because they speak Portuguese, Bible distribution, personal evangelism and radio ministry may be effective in reaching the Kantarure.
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you." Psalm 32:8
Pray for this people group to accept the Lord’s guidance and salvation.
Pray that the church would come to know of the Kantarure's existence and be willing to reach them for Christ. Pray churches in Brazil would adopt them for evangelism and church planting, sending missionaries to them. Pray the Kantarure people would become spiritually hungry and open to the gospel and dissatisfied with their indigenous religion. Pray the Brazilian government would not prohibit the evangelization of the smaller indigenous tribes. Pray Brazilian Christians would lead the Kantarure to Jesus Christ.
