Taga (Hindu traditions) in India

Taga (Hindu traditions) in India

Did the Taga lose Brahmin high caste status, or did they abandon it when they adopted farming? Whatever the answer, today they run modern family farms, and as a people group, they are divided into two divisions. Other Tagas have left farming for the professions and civil service in the city. Although they are seen as 100 percent Hindu, a small number go as pilgrims to Sufi Muslim sites.

Ministry Obstacles

Their tendency to live on family farms isolates them. They are virtually anonymous in urban Delhi, making it very hard to reach them.

Outreach Ideas

Those engaged in civil service and the professions in urban Delhi are accessible to Christian witness in the workplace. Most Tagas are literate, so literature and the JESUS Film are outreach options. Rural Tagas may be reached at the markets. Those in the universities can be reached by campus Christian fellowships.

Scripture Focus

"After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out, Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God."  Revelation 19:1

Scripture Prayer

Pray that many members of this people group join the vast crowd in heaven praising God for His glory, power and free gift of salvation.

Prayer Focus

Pray that the Church would recognize the need to evangelize Tagas and develop strategies to reach them in both rural and urban Delhi. Pray that Delhi Bible Fellowship and the university's Christian fellowship group would seek out Tagas and take Christ to them.
