The Bashkir are a Turkic people who primarily live in the Ural Mountains of Bashkiria, Russia. Some also live in the former Soviet republics of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The Bashkir once were nomadic shepherds who lived in clans. Today, Russians dominate the Bashkir homeland, and the Bashkir are closely related to the Russian Tatars. The only distinction is that their languages differ in dialect.
Although the Bashkirs are not as zealous as other Muslims, any form of Islam is difficult to influence. We need to pray for the Holy Spirit to break through to their hearts and minds.
The Bashkir know very little about their own history. They are a people who lack security in who they are. They need to know that they can only find security through Jesus Christ.
"So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, Do you understand what you are reading?" Acts 8:30
Pray that the Lord gives today’s people group a desire to hear and to understand God’s words.
Ask God to strengthen, encourage and protect the small number of Bashkir Christ followers. Ask the Lord to send forth laborers into the Bashkir harvest fields of Kazakhstan, Ukraine and especially Russia. Pray that God will raise up faithful intercessors who will stand in the gap for the Bashkir. Pray that God would raise up loving Russian Christ followers to reach out to their Muslim neighbors. Ask the Lord to raise up a strong church planting movement among the Bashkirs this decade.
