The Cumanagoto are a group of First Nations people who only live in Venezuela.
Traditionally they grew sweet potatoes, manioc, maize and cocoa trees. They gathered food from the wilderness. Most of their meat came from hunting not from domesticated animals.
They used wooden barriers to defend their villages. Living in a warm tropical climate, they wore very little clothes, but they wore ornaments such as feathers, gold, bones, teeth, flowers, pearls, gold or shells.
Only the chief had more than one wife.
The Cumanagoto culture is dying out, and so is their language. Few if any speak it. Others speak Spanish as their first language.
One of their taboos involves frogs. They believe frogs are the gods of the rivers, so they keep them as pets rather than killing them. Traditional Cumanagoto worship involved the sun and the moon. They still practice ethnic religion, but they have a Christian presence.
The Cumanagoto people need better medical care.
Pray for the Cumanagoto to have access to medical clinics and hospitals.
Pray for Cumanagoto disciples to make more disciples who make even more disciples.
Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead them to the cross.
