Introduction / History

There are more than 100 people groups in Ghana, about 19 of which remain unreached. One of these is the Chala people, who resist both Christianity and Islam.

Where Are they Located?

The Chala people only live in the West African country of Ghana.

What Are Their Lives Like?

As a small people group in Ghana where Islam and Christianity co-exist, the Chala people are trying to maintain their own culture and religion. Converting to one of the major world religions like Islam or Christianity is viewed as being like joining another tribe. There are a small number of Christians among them and no Muslims.

What Are Their Beliefs?

How many people would there have to be before you would devote 15 years of your life to translating the Scriptures for them? Would you do that for a people group of only 4,200? Bible translators have to struggle with such questions in a country like Ghana where there are small people groups. Those producing radio broadcasts, the JESUS Film, and gospel recordings would ask the same questions. Only Global Recordings Network has produced materials in the language of the Chala people, and you can listen to them online. It is a much simpler and shorter process to produce gospel recordings than a Bible or a full-length movie.

What Are Their Needs?

The Holy Spirit needs to move in Chala communities, giving them the motivation to allow Jesus Christ to bless them with abundant life.

Prayer Points

Pray for widespread distribution of gospel recordings in the Chala language.
Pray that their hearts will be open to the great Name of Jesus, the only Savior.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among Chala elders in such a way that they will see that one can follow Jesus and also be a faithful member of the Chala people.
