Introduction / History

The Ravulo traditionally are priests.

The Ravulo in Orissa speak, read and write in Oriya. They are not vegetarians and eat rice as a cereal. They prefer marriages between cousins and divorce is allowed. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home. They work as priests and in cultivation. They have a council to look after them. Hinduism is their religion. They value education and family planning.

In Andhra Pradesh, as well as Oriya, they can speak, read and write in Telugu. Many of them now work in agriculture. They have birth and marriage rituals.
