Many also rear livestock including yaks and goats which are vital to their economy and diet. Villages are typically located in remote, high-altitude areas, with houses constructed from locally sourced materials like stone, wood and thatch.
Social life centers around family and community activities, with a strong emphasis on cooperation and mutual support. Access to education is limited, particularly in the more isolated areas, leading to low literacy rates. Healthcare services are also scarce, and many rely on traditional medicine for their health needs.
The Ramo Idi people practice a blend of animism, Buddhism and local religious traditions. They believe in spirits associated with nature, such as those inhabiting mountains, rivers, and forests and perform rituals to honor these spirits and seek their protection. Buddhism, introduced through historical trade routes, plays a significant role in their spiritual life, with monasteries and religious festivals being central to the community. The coexistence of animist traditions with Buddhist practices reflects the Ramo Idi’s adaptation to external religious influences while preserving their ancestral beliefs.
The Ramo Idi people face significant challenges related to economic development, education, and healthcare. Many continue to rely on subsistence farming and livestock rearing, with limited access to alternative sources of income. Educational opportunities are scarce, particularly in remote areas, resulting in low literacy levels and limited access to formal education. Healthcare services are minimal, leading to poor health outcomes and a reliance on traditional practices. Infrastructure improvements, such as better roads, clean water supply, and access to electricity, are essential to enhancing their quality of life. Programs focused on sustainable development, education and healthcare access are crucial for the long-term well-being of the Ramo Idi people.
Pray for the Ramo Idi community to have a healthy fear of the wrath of the Lord that will motivate them to obey him. Pray that they will willingly become objects of blessing rather than objects of wrath. Pray that Ramo Idi in India will reach out to those in China, who are far less reached with the gospel.
