The Sorbs are a Slavic speaking people who live primarily in Saxony and Brandenburg, regions in eastern Germany near the Polish border. They have two subgroups with separate languages. There are the Milceni (upper) and Lusatian (Lower) Sorb. Another name for the Sorbs is Wend. Historically they were first mentioned in the 800s.
There was a major effort to “Germanize” them in Germany, especially between 1875-1945. After WWII, their home was part of communist east Germany. They clashed with East German police over the communist insistence on restricting religious observations.
The Lower Lusatian language is spoken only by the elderly. The younger generations speak German. Their language is being replaced by German.
Most of the Sorbs are either Roman Catholic or Lutheran. Like most other European peoples, there is a strong inclination towards secularism at the heart level.
Like most peoples in Europe, the Sorbs need to center their spirituality on Jesus Christ.
Pray for their spirituality to be centered on Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Pray for Sorb disciples to make more disciples.
Pray for spiritual hunger to be satisfied by a deep relationship with the only savior.
