Introduction / History

At one time the Pilaga and the Toba were separate tribes, but now they are merged.

Pilaga is a dying language. Most people who speak it live in Argentina, though there are a few in Paraguay as well.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Pilaga speakers are adjusting to a Spanish speaking world. There are fewer and fewer efforts to help children in classrooms who only speak the Pilaga language. There is a book that includes the myths and legends of the Pilaga and Toba tribes, which will hopefully keep their culture alive.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Pilaga Toba are almost entirely Christian today. In Argentina they have a stronger bent towards Evangelicalism than they do in Paraguay. There is always the danger of them slipping back into traditional religion.

What Are Their Needs?

Their identity as a tribe is in serious jeopardy. The Pilaga Toba people need to keep their identity and their eyes on Jesus Christ. The Lord may be all they have left.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move mightily among the Pilaga Toba tribe, leading them to a greater future, despite the obstacles.
Pray for the Lord to use the Pilaga Toba people to reach tribes that lack an adequate gospel witness.
Pray for Pilaga Toba disciples to make hundreds of other disciples.
