Traditionally the Orochi people made their living by fishing in their homeland, which is in some of coldest regions of Siberian Russia. The traditional Orochi homeland is in the southern part of the Khabarovsk Krai. They lived along the Amur and Kopp rivers. Later, many of them moved to Sakhalin, a Russian owned island north of Japan. In the 1930s they were given their own homeland, but this changed due to their small population. Many of them later moved to other parts of Russia, and even more now live in Ukraine.
Today their population continues to shrink. Their language is dying out; it is not a written language. The remaining Orochi people have no choice but to adjust to their new culture. They also must adjust to a war between Russia and Ukraine that affects everyone in that country.
The Orochi people can be Buddhist or shamanistic. In Russia they might be marginally Russian Orthodox. Those in Ukraine have maintained their traditional religion.
The Orochi people might need help in adjusting to an urban Ukrainian future with all that entails.
Pray that the Orochi people will soon put their hope and identity in Jesus Christ rather than in their ethnicity.
Pray for the Lord to direct the Orochi people in the path he has for them.
Pray for the spiritual lives of the Orochi people to become fruitful as they follow Christ.
