Introduction / History

The Mba are an indigenous Sudanic people group of northern Democratic Republic of Congo, also known as Mbae or Manga. They have lived for generations in rural riverine and forest-edge regions, maintaining strong kinship networks and agricultural traditions while interacting with neighboring peoples through trade and intermarriage. Their language is called Mba.

Most Mba families depend on subsistence farming, fishing, and small-scale trade. Households are extended, with elders guiding family and community decisions. The Mba face limited access to quality education, healthcare, and clean water, which hinders community development. Economic instability and poor infrastructure restrict market access and opportunities.
