Introduction / History

The Manyika are an ethnic and linguistic subgroup of the greater Shona peoples of southern Africa. During colonial days the Portuguese controlled the Manyika homeland.


What Are Their Lives Like?

Today many of the Manyika people are involved with trade, but most are agricultural. Manyika farmers grow corn and raise livestock. They also fish, hunt and collect goods from wild areas. Others work in mines or distilleries.


What Are Their Beliefs?

They are mostly Roman Catholic and animistic. They believe the Roman Catholic tenets, but practice traditional African religion at home.


What Are Their Needs?

The Manyika need to put Jesus Christ first in their lives. Their communities need his guidance and mercy.
