Introduction / History

The Lamba are a Bantu-speaking people living mainly in northern Zambia and southern DR Congo. Their history includes migration from the Luba-Lunda region and long involvement in copper mining and farming, which shaped their social and economic life. Their primary language is Lamba.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Most Lamba depend on small-scale farming, growing maize, cassava, and groundnuts, with some working in mines and urban trades. Extended families live near one another, valuing cooperation and respect for elders. Traditional ceremonies mark births, initiations, marriages, and harvests. Staple foods include nshima with vegetables, beans, fish, and meat.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Many combine Christianity with traditional beliefs, honoring ancestral spirits and seeking protection through rituals, charms, and divination.

What Are Their Needs?

Clear biblical teaching is needed to address fear of spirits and encourage wholehearted trust in Christ. Access to Scripture in heart languages and training for local believers can strengthen discipleship and outreach. Improved education, healthcare, and economic opportunities would help families thrive.

Prayer Items

Pray for spiritual freedom from fear and bondage, for deep faith in Christ, and for strong local churches. Pray for improved health services, education, and sustainable livelihoods. Pray that the Lamba Christians would lead their communities for God's glory, preach the Gospel, teach the Bible, plant churches, and make disciples of their own nation and beyond.
