Linguistically, the Dime belong to the Omotic language family. The Dime people live in the North Omo Administrative Region. Their territory consists of a mountain range of less than 20 kms width and 55 kms length, which stretches from north to south.
Their neighbours are the Chara to the north (across the river Omo), the Basketto to the north-east and east, the Aari to the southeast, the Mursi and some Surma to the south-west, and the Bodi (Me'en) to the west. They have 47% lexical similarity with the Banna. They make use of terracing when tilling the land and they grow maize, barley, and enset (false banana).
