Introduction / History

The Nivacle dwell in the Chaco area of northern Paraguay. They are comprised of five regional groups: the Chishamnee Lhavos, Shichaam Lhavos, Yita’ Lhavos, Jotoi Lhavos, and Tavashai Lhavos. “Nivaclé” itself is an autonym for “human.”
Prior to the beginning of the twentieth century, this indigenous group was primarily a hunter-gatherer society. Today, the Nivacle still practice traditional crafts, including weaving and wood carving.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Daily rain provides irrigation and drinking water for the Nivacle, who reside in densely vegetated areas. Their traditional language is still spoken in two dialects: Forest Nivaclé and River Nivaclé. The Bible was translated into the Nivaclé language in 1995.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Mennonite beliefs, as well as the Church of the Latter-Day Saints, have influenced Nivacle culture.

What Are Their Needs?

The Nivacle need to place all their faith in Jesus Christ.

Prayer Points

Praise God for providing the Bible in their language. Pray for faith to come by hearing the word of God. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers to all peoples of Paraguay. Pray for them to make disciples, teaching others to obey everything Christ has commanded.
