The Dabgar trace their origin to Rajput clans who used to make shields of leather for use in battle. Their traditional primary occupation has been the tanning of animal hides, but today they pursue other vocations. A Brahmin fixes the date and time for betrothals and marriage. Their community goddess is Ashpura. The Nai, Garo Brahmin and Rawal (drummers) assist them in their life-cycle rituals.
Lack of Christian workers able to communicate in the languages of the Dabgar people may slow the advance of the good news of Jesus among them.
Pray for Christian workers who know how to communicate the gospel orally to be sent to the Dabgar people in the Lord's timing. Telling stories from Scripture is especially effective. None of the Hindu Dabgar have reported themselves as Christians to the census of India. However, please pray for the many Dabgar who will one day become disciples of Jesus Christ. Pray that this low status people group would be able to improve their standard of living in the years ahead. This will probably require rising educational levels as well as employment opportunities.
