Introduction / History

The Kaan Libo are an indigenous people located in Adamawa State, especially in the Shellen, Song, and Numan LGAs. They speak the Kaan (Libo) language, an Adamawa language of the Niger–Congo family. Their historical identity is tied to the broader Benue people cluster, sharing cultural and linguistic patterns with neighboring communities.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Kaan Libo live in agrarian communities where farming, livestock rearing, and small-scale trading shape everyday work life. Families often function as cooperative units, with shared involvement in planting, harvesting, household responsibilities, and community decision-making.

Local celebrations highlight music, traditional customs, and communal gatherings that reinforce unity and kinship. Their diet reflects what is grown or gathered locally, often centered on staple crops common in Adamawa's rural environment.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Kaan Libo follow a blend of ethnic religious practices and Christianity, with Christianity being the largest affiliation among them.

Where faith in Christ is already established, believers can be prayed for to grow as disciples and become part of the mission force, bringing the compassion of Jesus to less-reached groups. Traditional beliefs still influence aspects of community life, but many are engaging with biblical teaching and Christ-centered hope.

What Are Their Needs?

Spiritual growth through greater access to Scripture, teaching, and discipleship resources would support the maturing of Christian communities. Opportunities for leadership development would strengthen the capacity of local believers to guide their families and neighbors.

Rural communities often benefit from increased stability, improved livelihood opportunities, and strengthened social structures. A deeper awareness of Christ's mercy and presence can bring lasting peace and clarity amid daily challenges.

Prayer Items

Pray for the Holy Spirit to deepen the faith of Kaan Libo believers and make their witness fruitful.
Pray for unity and wisdom among families as they navigate cultural expectations and follow Christ faithfully.
Pray that the gospel will continue to shape the community and prepare them to reach other ethnic groups with grace and love.
Pray for strong, Christ-centered leadership that guides the community toward hope and steadfastness.
