The Paiaku people live in the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil.
It is very possible that the Paiaku people do not even speak their own language anymore. Such a situation produces a dilemma. The loss of a language means the loss of one of the world's cultures which is tragic. However, since the Paiaku people are listed as speaking Portuguese, some new doors are open for them. They go from having no Scriptures, no gospel recordings, no JESUS Film, radio, or TV programs to having all of the above.
Many Paiaku believe that by coming to Christ, they would have to abandon their people and culture.
The primary religion practiced by the Paiaku is ethnic religion. Ethnic religion is deeply rooted in a people's ethnic identity and conversion essentially equates to cultural assimilation.
The Paiaku people need the chance to survive physically and spiritually. They are probably dying out as a people.
Pray for the Paiaku people to hear and respond to the gospel before they become assimilated into the Portuguese-speaking culture around them.
Pray that they will love, honor and worship the One who created them.
