The Xakriabá are an Indigenous people living mainly in Minas Gerais state in Brazil. They belong to the Jê linguistic family and historically occupied large areas of central Brazil.
Colonial expansion, ranching, and land disputes caused major losses of territory and cultural disruption. Even so, the Xakriabá preserved elements of their identity, traditions, and community organization.
Most Xakriabá families depend on agriculture, small-scale trade, and local labor. Villages maintain strong family relationships and community cooperation.
Access to education has improved, though poverty and limited healthcare remain challenges. Younger generations increasingly interact with broader Brazilian culture through schools and technology.
The Xakriabá continue preserving cultural festivals and Indigenous traditions. Evangelical believers among them can model Christ-centered leadership and discipleship.
Traditional Xakriabá beliefs include respect for ancestral traditions, nature, and spiritual rituals connected to healing and community life.
Catholic influences and Protestant Christianity have reached some communities, though traditional practices remain important in many areas.
From an evangelical perspective, the Xakriabá need deeper biblical discipleship and strong
indigenous Christian leadership rooted in Scripture.
Socially, the Xakriabá need support for education, healthcare, and land protection. Young people need encouragement to preserve their identity while preparing for future opportunities.
Economically, many families struggle with poverty and unstable employment. Sustainable agricultural development is important for long-term stability.
Spiritually, the Xakriabá need mature churches led by local believers. Indigenous Christians among them can become a gospel influence throughout the region.
Pray that Xakriabá believers would grow in biblical maturity.
Pray for unity among evangelical churches in the region.
Pray that younger generations would follow Christ faithfully.
Pray that Xakriabá Christians would become a gospel witness to spiritually needy indigenous communities.
