The Sanga people of central/North-east Nigeria have their own culture and language, but this will probably change as they have contact with Nigerian society. The Sanga speak the language of Sanga. The JESUS Film and some gospel recordings are currently available. The Bible is presently being translated into Sanga. We can pray that every Sanga person has the opportunity to hear the gospel.
The Sanga occupy a strategic location on the cross road of Plateau, Kaduna and Bauchi States of Nigeria's North Central, Northwest and Northeast regions respectively.
The majority of the Sanga people live in rural settings and their communities are poorly developed. Islamic radical preachers are targeting the Sanga people. Conflicts could potentially arise since the Sanga people have consistently rejected Islam.
Most people groups in rural Nigeria like the Sanga enjoy music, story telling and dance as a form of entertainment and communication. These art forms are very meaningful in rural Nigeria. Those who want to take the gospel to the Sanga people would do well to use these art forms when presenting the gospel.
The Sanga people fear the activities of witches, wizards and evil spirits. Syncretism and folk practices are common and weaken the church. In indigenous cultures, peoples often attribute powers to the objects of nature such as trees, mountains, rivers, rocks, animals and the sky. If evil spirits are not appeased, they can bring disasters upon the people. Village shamans connect the people with the spirit world. He or she performs spells and magic rituals and gives charms and amulets to persons seeking protection from evil spirits.
The Sanga people need more Christian workers who are sent out in the power of prayers to reap in the huge harvests among the people. They need medical care and good schools that will help the next generation to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
The Sanga people need the blessings of the Risen Christ, who has conquered death, and will give them abundant life if they are willing to accept His guidance. They need the gift of faith in Jesus Christ, who alone is the judge of all mankind, and will separate the sheep from the goats on Judgment Day. Christ can deliver the Sanga from their fear of evil spirits.
Pray for the Lord to raise up a strong disciple making movement to saturate the hearts and minds of the Sanga people.
Pray for God's blessing, strengthening and healing of Sanga families and communities within this people group through the abundant life Jesus offers to all who call on His name.
Pray for God's blessing on the leaders of the Sanga people, along with their families, and for their communities to welcome and enjoy God's blessing.
Pray for the Lord to multiply the reception and influence of His Word among this people group, leading them to love Him with their whole being.
