The Mongondow people believe that their ancestors came from the Gumalangit and Tendeduata couples and the Tumotoiboko and Tumotoibokat couples, who lived on Mount Komasan, which is now part of Bintauna. Each of these pairs descended into the Mongondow tribe. The number of people of the Mongondow Tribe, which was increasing over time, made the spread of their population even more widespread, to areas where they were not from, namely: Tudu (village) in Lombagin, Buntalo, Pondoli ', Ginolantung, Tudu in Passi, Tudu in Lolayan , Tudu in Sia ', Tudu in Bumbungon, Mahag, Siniow, and so on.
The Great Mongondow area, which includes the districts of Bolaang Mongondow, South Mongondow, North Mongondow, East Mongondow, and Kotamobagu City which are all located in the province of North Sulawesi
The livelihoods of the Mongondow tribe at that time were hunting animals, fishing, processing sago and looking for tubers in the forest. In general, they do not know how to grow crops.
King Jakobus Manoppo was the king of Bolaang Mongondow who first received education at the Hoofden School Ternate, because he had been brought in by trader V.O.C. after passing the approval of his father the king of Loloda Mokoagow (datu Binangkang). Jakobus Manoppo was the 10th king who reigned from 1691-1720, who was appointed by V.O.C., although his appointment as king was not approved by his father. At the time of his inauguration, Jakobus Manoppo was Roman Catholic. During the reign of King Cornelius Manoppo, the 16th king (1832), Islam entered the Bolaang Mongondow area via Gorontalo brought by Syarif Aloewi, who married the king's daughter in 1866. Because the royal family before King Cornelius Manoppo embraced Islam, then religion is considered the religion of the king, so that most of the Bolaang Mongondow population embracing Islam has also influenced the development of culture in several aspects of community life.
