The Intha people speak a nonstandard variety of Burmese. They live within southern Shan State, Myanmar, in the township of Shwe Nyaung.
They are fishermen and agriculturalists. Many of their villages are built right on top of Inle Lake. They travel around by boats, which they row with their legs.
Almost all of the Intha people are Buddhists. Some outreach is being done among them by local evangelists and missionaries from other people groups within Myanmar. Though local evangelists have visited the Intha, they are strongly attached to their Buddhist practice and belief and have not been receptive to belief in Jesus.
They need the Word of God translated. Since the Intha people speak a non-standard variety of Burmese, they would probably be able to adequately use the Burmese Bible. However, it would be beneficial to produce evangelistic materials (such as audio-visual materials, songs, tracts, etc.) in the Intha language.
