The Chehalis people are a First Nations tribe that lives in western Washington. They have two subgroups. The “upper” group lived in the hills and mountains, and the “lower” group lived in the flat areas. They had their own language, but today their population is so small that they use English.
They used the local rivers for food and transportation. They fished for salmon and trout and navigated the river using canoes and small boats.
Most now live on the Chehalis Indian Reservation. About two thirds of the people there are full-blooded Chehalis. They have lived on that reservation since 1860.
Since 1939 the Chehalis have their own independent government with a constitution. Their tribal council elects a business committee and enforces their ordinances. They also address real estate deals that affect their tribe.
Though they also adhere to traditional religious beliefs, a little over half are officially Christian.
Like peoples everywhere, the Chehalis need to put all their faith in Jesus Christ.
Pray for Chehalis disciples to make more disciples.
Pray for their spirituality to be centered on Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Pray for spiritual hunger to be satisfied by a deep relationship with the only savior.
