The Central Maewo people are a combination of Melanese and European descent who live in the northern part of the Republic of Vanuatu on an island known for rain and waterfalls.
Central Maewo is very remote, primitive, and sparsely inhabited. The people engage in fishing and agriculture, seldom encountering outsiders, except occasional tourists looking for an exotic hideaway.
The majority of the Central Maewo consider themselves to be Christian, but traditional religious beliefs, ceremonies, and rituals continue to be practiced by some.
The Central Maewo need a clear and accurate gospel presentation. Christians among them need to be encouraged to share the good news and make disciples. The Central Maewo also continue to lack a full Bible translation.
Pray translators to adopt this people group and provide them with the Bible in their heart language. Pray for an awakening in the church of the Central Maewo and for a fresh, Spirit-led emphasis on the truth of God's word.
