Introduction / History

Buglere is a Chibchan language spoken in Veraguas and Ngobe Bugle provinces in central Panama. They are located in the region called Santa Catalina or Toncri in the coast of Panama. There are also Buglere speakers in Coto Brus, part of Puntarenas province in southern Costa Rica. Buglere is also known as Bobota, Bocota, Bofota, Bogota, Bokota, Bukueta, Murire, Nortenyo or Veraguas Sabanero.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They love fishing and hunting. Most farm for their food supply. To supplement the family income Buglere women weave baskets and make dresses called naguas.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They believe there are spirits and ghosts around them. Their ancestral spirits are especially important. Some believe in a god called "Chube" but they mostly belief are spirit and ghost.

Others have put their faith in Jesus Christ. Some proclaim to have faith yet they don’t have a relationship with God.

What Are Their Needs?

Many of them continue believing in their ancestral spirits. They need to be freed to give Jesus Christ all their devotion.

Pray for the church to continue spreading the gospel.
Pray for them to come to the knowledge of the true God.
Pray for those who still believe in their ancestor to turn to the living God.
Pray for them to spread the gospel to indigenous people who lack a strong Christian witness.
