The Moniain Binza, also called Monia or Kutu, are a Bantu people living along the Ngiri and Mwanda river systems in Equateur Province, where waterways shape settlement, trade, and daily life. Their history is closely tied to fishing, farming, and river travel in forested lowlands, which fostered tight-knit village communities and strong kinship networks. Their primary language is Libinza.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Most families rely on fishing, small-scale farming, gathering forest products, and local trade. Extended families live together, sharing labor and childcare. Meals commonly include cassava, plantains, fish, and leafy greens. Celebrations center on church gatherings, weddings, harvest times, and communal feasts that reinforce unity and mutual support.

There are few Moniain Binza evangelicals, but many who identify as Christians.
