The Anor language is used by all generations for interpersonal communication, so the vitality of the language is stable. Anor speakers live along the famous Ramu River in the Middle Ramu District of Madang Province, which means that government services at the district headquarters in Simbai station are very far away.
In the Middle Ramu District people must rely on the land for their food. They can earn a small income by selling betelnut, coconut, vegetables, and fruit or slightly higher incomes by selling coffee. Royalties from logging and mining also add some income, but it is a hard life, with life expectancy just 61.3 years in Madang Province (as of 2019).
Praise God that the gospel has reached 86% percent of the people and 17% of those are evangelical Christians.
The literacy rate in this district is unusually low: just 30.7% for men and only 16.6% for women.
Please pray that audio Bible stories will be made available for these beautiful people.
Pray for improved literacy so they can better care for the blessings of their land and families and come to know the one who bestows all blessings.
